"Hi Vicky. I am going to send you a proper thank you card but may be a while before their printed and I have to say before then, thank you so much for everything you did both before the wedding and on the day. You honestly were incredible and so kind and caring and I really felt as though you would do anything it took that morning to make me feel 100% perfect, which you did. I loved my hair and makeup and have no doubt that I would not have felt that way had you not been there. I am so grateful for everything you did and everyone commented that my hair and make up was beautiful so thank you. You've been brilliant x"

Holly Dress for Lakeside Shopping Centre
So pleased with the result of Lakeside Shopping Centre's Christmas photoshoot.
Fashion student Katherine Massey from Bath University, did a wonderful job creating the dress, covered in around 500 holly leaves.
The dress was later worn by Made In Chelsea's Louise Thompson, to the OK Magazine Christmas party.

Hair and Makeup Autumn/Winter 2012
Berkhamsted Living Magazine
Vicky Brown Hair and Makeup Artist Berkhamsted
"As the nights draw in and the weather gets colder, it can be tempting to go into hibernation mode, reaching for the woolly hat and ditching the makeup. Just because it’s getting colder, there’s no excuse to hide away, in fact, now is the time to try something new and brighten your look. A couple of simple, on trend changes will make you feel great and can be your own personal war on the grey British weather!
Classic red lips were everywhere on the autumn/winter 2012 catwalks. Be it crimson, berry or pillar-box red; every time the weather cools it seems we just can’t help reaching for the lipstick to brighten our wardrobe! It’s such a key trend for the new season and if you’ve never tried it before, why not give it a go at this year’s Christmas party? Go on...be brave! Lighter berry shades are great for a pretty look when teamed with a natural base and eyes; however, darker shades like burgundy, look striking and glamorous both day and night.
Update your hairstyle with a side parting for the new season, It’s a great way to refresh your look without undergoing an expensive cut and re-style. Wear your hair loose in a side parting for a soft look or tie it back in a low slung pony or bun to give it a sharper style, another hit on the runways this year.
If all else fails, you can always resort to the classic smoky eye and nude lip, always a timeless classic and will match any outfit day or night.Do remember though, harsh winter temperatures can be a nightmare for our hair and complexion, so no matter what trend you choose to follow this winter 2012, make sure that your makeup includes a skin care base that will help protect you from the winter cold and anti-frizz products for your hair can be a real life saver."

Hairdressing; Colour Change Service
So now for a rather geeky confession...the reason I love colouring people's hair? Yes it makes a huge change to someones appearance and yes, there's a bit more variety with colouring then cutting but really?...It's because there is so much science behind it all and I love a challenge! Anyone who has used a home hair kit will know that hair colour very rarely turns out the way it looks on the box.
There are so many factors that need to be considered before selecting the correct colour and tone; condition of the hair? Does the hair need to be stripped if too dark? Does the hair need to be pre-pigmented if too light? Are the tones compatible? Does the colour need to be neutralised etc etc...
Fiona has had highlights in her hair for the past 5 years and decided it was time for a change. To get Fiona's hair ready for the darker colour, it was essential we pre-pigmented her hair first...basically putting back in the colour which the years of bleach had stripped out. Without doing so, the hair would have turned a khaki, light brown. Once the warmth was put back into Fiona's hair, we could begin the normal colouring process...

I was lucky
enough to be asked to do the makeup for Lauren in a 'night of the living

The brief was to
make Lauren look like a mannequin whilst keeping her makeup fresh and
beautiful. Using matt products and harsh contouring, this look worked well
under camera and can be seen on Reveal.co.uk and OK! Magazine

Testimonials for Vicky Brown Hair and Makeup Artist
"Vicky completed the hair and makeup for my wedding. She spent several hours with me during a trial and I felt as though there was no rush. Vicky made me feel at ease and I was very relaxed in her presence. The same can be said for the wedding day. She helped to calm my nerves and allowed plenty of time for hair and makeup to be completed. It was perfect and so many people commented on how stunning it looked. I was so pleased. Vicky is very professional and it is easy to warm to her. She even stayed for over an hour after completing my hair and makeup to help out with any last minute bits and to make sure there were no touch ups needed after putting on my dress. In the end she was helping my family with all sorts of bits just before we all left! Thank you so much Vicky! It was all so perfect"Bride 2012, Radlett, Hertfordshire"You deserve a glowing review! You are great at your job and you made us all feel so relaxed and calm which is exactly what we needed. What an AMAZING job you did for my hair and makeup it looked stunning and like you assured me, it stayed on/up all night! Thanks again for being so calm, collected and just generally fab. Highly recommend Vicky as a super hair and make up artist who takes time and care to make sure all is perfect and you feel great...and I did!"Bride 2012, Watford, HertfordshireBride:"Thank you for doing such an amazing job and making me feel like a gorgeous bride. You were absolutely fantastic on the day and it wouldn't have been as relaxed or well organised without your fantastic skills! Xx"Maid of Honour:"Hi Vicky, all the bridesmaids have been raving about you today. Thank you for doing such a fabulous job on the bride and my makeup yesterday, you are incredibly skilled and I loved your creativity, especially Natasha's hair. Not only did Natasha look amazing but you were excellent support to the bridal party, especially when there were a few tears! You also went out of your way to help anyone with whatever they needed and we were ever so pleased and appreciated having you there on such an important morning of Natasha's life. Many thanks again, she couldn't have done it without you x"Bride and Maid of Honour 2012, Maidenhead

Hertfordshire Weddings
One of the most popular weekends for summer weddings has
been and gone and it certainly felt like one of the busiest!
Friday I went to meet a bride Juliet for a bridal trial
ready for her wedding this September at Shendish Manor in Hertfordshire. It’s
so lovely to help someone find their perfect style and this bride wasn’t sure
where to start but we ended up with a very natural up-do.
Saturday morning I went to do Bride Kerry’s hair and makeup
for her wedding in Shenley. Kerry had been let down by a very well know artist
in the area just 3 weeks before her big day and was absolutely devastated; so
it was lovely to see her so excited on the morning and she was over the moon
with the hair and makeup I did for her.
Following Kerry’s wedding, I went off to my 2nd
trial of the weekend to meet another bride ready for her wedding in October. We
spent quite some time running through different hairstyles as the bride wasn’t
sure what she wanted, I’m looking forward to heading back in the next couple of
weeks to finalise details and also run through a makeup trial with her sister
also.
Sunday morning, I headed off bright and early with Charlie
Pearcy and Lauren Taylor to help prepare a big bridal party at Down Hall Country House Hotel, Hatfield Heath. It’s unusual for 3 artists to go to one
morning but with such a big bridal party, it’s always lovely to have company!
Monday...Bank Holiday and I still found time to meet with
another bride to discuss wedding hair and makeup arrangements for her date in
October. It was also great to help her out with her dress alterations,
recommending Charlotte Grace, a seamstress and dress maker based in St Albans.

When to Book Your Wedding Hair and Makeup
Congratulations
if you've just got engaged! Planning your wedding day should be both fun and
exciting, but it's easy to get overwhelmed and how just early is too early to
start booking everything?
Chances are, the
first thing you’ll do is find your perfect wedding venue, after all, this can
determine the date of the ceremony. The other details will then follow; cars,
reception, catering, music, dress etc etc. Recently though, I have been
inundated with last minute enquires from frantic brides desperate to find a
Hair and Makeup Artist for their big day because they’ve left it to the last
minute. With the rest of the wedding industry booking up so early, it’s just as
important to sort your Hair and Makeup Artist for the day as we get booked up early
too and it’s horrible turning a bride away!
It’s so easy to
get swept away with it all and the big day comes around far quicker than you
expect, but you need to allow plenty of time to liaise with your Hair and
Makeup Artist:
·
Once you’ve found your Artist, make sure you take
advantage of the free consultation
to introduce yourself, discuss your ideas and arrangements
for the day and most importantly; to make sure you’re completely comfortable with
person! If you’re happy, this is then the time to pay your deposit and secure
your date which will ensure nobody else get’s in there first.
·
A trial then normally takes place 6-8 weeks prior to the
wedding day, but talk to your Hair and Makeup Artist about your expectations
and any plans for cut’s, colour’s or spray tans as they may suggest alternative
trial dates. A trial then allows you to try
different looks and ideas, often with the help of images, accessories and of
course the style of your dress. The trial is the perfect time to discuss the
requirements for the rest of your bridal party and any other concerns you may
have.
·
The Hair and Makeup Artist will then work
out a schedule for the morning for you depending on the size of your bridal
party, styles chosen and the time of the ceremony.
·
On the day, the Hair and Makeup Artist will arrive with all your photo’s
and notes from the trial and will re-create the look exactly. Now isn’t the
time to go changing your mind as it’s often a case of last minute nerves; but
if you do have any concerns, please let them know!

Wedding Hair and Makeup Trial
It's always
lovely to be asked along to do a hair and makeup trial for a bride, but the
pressure is most definitely on when a previous hair and makeup artist hasn’t performed
to expectations!
A trial should be an exciting moment in the run up to the big day and you shouldn’t be left with any doubts. So many times I’ve heard of other artists putting time limits on the trial or telling the bride “it may look a bit scuffy and feel a bit loose but it won’t be like that on the day...” which in my opinion, is not a great way to put your bride at ease or gain any business!
This should be a relaxed and fun occasion and the perfect time to discuss any ideas you have, any concerns and all the details for the big day.

Hair and Makeup in Hertfordshire
With wedding season in full swing, I'm faced with another incredible busy weekend...which is all good news of course!
The long weekend starts with another shoot at Strictly Boudoir working with photographer Mikaela Morgan at her studio in Wilstone, near Tring.
The afternoon moves into creating some new hairstyles and bridal hairstyles to feature on my website and portfolio...very excited to see how these come out.
Saturday morning I will be doing the bridal hair and makeup for Natasha for her wedding in Maidenhead, fingers crossed the sun will be shining for Natasha and Dan!
Next up is a bridal hair and makeup trial in Watford for a bride getting married in September, followed by a coffee with another bride getting married in March 2013 to discuss hair acxessories and styles and finally; an evening of hairdressing.
It's proving to be a busy year and with 2 wedding fayre's at Shendish Manor and Bushey Country Club on the horizon; I am very much looking forward to what 2013 brings...

Skin Care Guide
I’m frequently asked about skin care routine so, I’ve decided to put a little skin care guide together! Hopefully you find this useful and please contact me if you have any questions or need product advice.
STEP 6: SUNSCREEN
STEP 1: CLEANSE
Using your fingers, rub the cleanser of your choice all over your face making sure you also reach those blemish prone areas around your nose and chin. Rinse with warm water and if you want a light exfoliation, try using a muslin cloth when removing the product.

STEP 2: TONER
Toner is so important as it finishes removing anything you missed during cleansing. Place a small amount of the product on a cotton wool pad and sweep over the face.

STEP 3: SERUM
Serums are still fairly new so many people still don’t incorporate this into their skin care routine yet. There are many different serums on the market, from anti-aging to acne prone skin but all come loaded with vitamins and nutrients and this product has the ability to really penetrate all layers of the skin. Use a small amount and massage into the face well.

Eye cream is always a recommended product but a necessary one?...probably not.
Eye cream is always a recommended product but a necessary one?...probably not.
If like me, you can get away with using a light
moisturiser, than you can probably give eye cream a miss. If you use a rich
moisturiser for anti-aging or very dry skin, these shouldn’t be applied to the
sensitive eye area anyway as it can cause puffiness and damage to the sensitive
skin area.
Take a tiny bit of product onto your finger and
pat it lightly beneath the eye.
STEP 5: MOISTURISER
Light, rich, firming, anti-aging...whatever your choice of moisturiser, use a generous amount.
Light, rich, firming, anti-aging...whatever your choice of moisturiser, use a generous amount.
Most makeup products come with SPF in which
technically means you can skip this step. However, if you really want to look
after your skin, use a sunscreen for your face beneath your makeup.
STEP 7: PRIMER (prior
to makeup application only)
I can’t recommend a primer enough...really
really really. It helps form a protective layer between your skin and makeup
and most importantly helps your makeup stay on all day. Once your moisturiser
has thoroughly absorbed, using your fingers, work in a small amount of primer
across your face, primarily around the T-Zone.

Model Mayhem
I am now a member of Model Mayhem, a great website for connecting with other artists in the industry, photographers and models etc.
I've joined in the hope of expanding my portfolio further from the weddings and small shoots I already do. If you know anyone looking for a hair and makeup artist for portfolio shots, studio work, student fashion or art work etc...they can contact me via Model Mayhem, or via my website www.vicky-brown.co.uk
